RX J1624.9+7554: A new X-ray transient AGN

چکیده

We report the discovery of a new X-ray transient AGN, RX J1624.9+7554. This object appeared to be bright in the ROSAT All-Sky Survey, but had turned off in two pointed observations about one and a half years later. The optical identification spectrum shows a non-emission line spectrum of a spiral galaxy at z=0.064. We will discuss several hypotheses that can explain the peculiar behaviour of this object.

Discovery of an ultrasoft transient ROSAT AGN : WPVS 007 ?

We have identified the ROSAT source RX J0039.2-5117 with the previously almost unknown 'narrow line' Seyfert 1 galaxy WPVS007 (z = 0:028). The X-ray source displays quite unusual properties for an AGN. It was bright and ultrasoft in the ROSAT All-Sky Survey (RASS) and found at a level lower by a factor of 400 in PSPC count rate in 1993. The implied 0:1 2:4 keV luminosity during the RASS was 10 ...

A multi-frequency study of the SMC region around AX J0105-722

We present a high-resolution multi-frequency study of the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) region around the X-ray pulsar AX J0105-722. From ROSAT PSPC images we resolve this source into several X-ray sources. We combine X-ray, radio-continuum and optical data to identify the sources: for RX J0105.1-7211 we propose an emission line star from the catalogue of Meyssonier & Azzopardi (1993) in the X-r...

X-Ray Binary Systems in the Small Magellanic Cloud

We present the result of a systematic search for spectrally hard and soft X-ray binary systems in the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC). This search has been applied to ROSAT PSPC data (0.1-2.4 keV) collected during nine pointed observations towards this galaxy covering a time span of ∼2 years from October 91 till October 93. Strict selection criteria have been defined in order to confine the sample...

X-ray Transient Agn and Galaxies, and Why We Need New Soft X-ray Surveys

X-ray transience is the most extreme form of variability observed in AGN or normal non-active galaxies. While factors of 2-3 on timescales of days to years are quite common among AGN, X-ray transients appear only once and vanish from the X-ray sky years later. The ROSAT AllSky Survey with its sensitivity to energies down to 0.1 keV was the an ideal tool to discover these sources. X-ray transien...
